This is a picture of an Andy Reekers needlefish lure placed next to a standard Andy Reekers #5 for size comparison.

I had never heard of an Andy Reekers needlefish lure before and can not find any reference to it on the internet. If anyone knows anything about this lure I would be very interested in hearing from you.

Thanks to Doug for the picture.

This is an Andy Reekers Silver Special. It is owned by me.

Notice the original packaging. I am assuming one of my relatives stapled the lure to the paper. Not very sophisticated by today’s standards, but rather quaint.

These are a display of Andy Reekers blades that were posted on ifish.net by parthur (Pat Arthur).

The are Left to Right:

#5 1/2 Copper / Half Stainless
#5 All Stainless
#6-1/2 Half Copper / Half Stainless

These are Andy Reekers spoons that were posted on ifish by pearl

The small one is a size 5 and the larger is a size 6 1/2.

Are the silver specials collectable? I have quite a collection of reekers in various finishes, can you tell me more about the hooks they say England on the side

    • Gary Olson says:

The Andy Reekers do not appear to be particularly collectible. They are something of a regional lure and do not appear to have caught the eye of the collectors, which might be a good reason to start collecting them.

I have about thirty some Andy Reekers and other old time Columbia River fishing lures, some of which I still use today. Most of them belonged to my Grandfather, when he passed, they went to my Dad. So about 10 years ago they came to me.
It is interesting seeing them displayed… and based on that, I assume I should not remove any more of the hand forged hooks and replace with new ones!?!?

I believe I have the only pre 1922 Andy Reekers spoon in the World. It says
    Andy Reekers
    Pat. APLY.
I WOULD LOVE TO GET YOU A PICTURE OF THIS AMAZING LURE AND FOR YOU TO INFORM ME ON IT IF POSSIBLE. THE HARDWARE ON IT IS FAR LESS ADVANCED THAN Reeker’s first Pattented spoon. Thanks and I Mayah sell this one of a kind lure to the correct collector.

I have a large number of Andy Reekers that I got from the Grandfathers Estate… is there a way to attach a picture(s) to these replies?

Nice to inherit things a family member used and enjoyed. Unfortunately, we don’t think there is a way to post photos in a comment although you can post a link.

When I was a kid in the 1980s, my fly-fishing father gave me a patch that said “Andy Reekers Gets It On” with an embroidered fishing lure. It was sewed to the jacket I wore for years.

If anyone happens to have one of these patches in their possession I might be interested in buying it for the nostalgia, or at least seeing a photo of it.

I left a picture in the ifish link attached to this site, of an old lure in it’s original packaging that I found in my dad’s belongings. It’s a #7 or #17 Flea Weight. He used to fish for all kinds of fish including sturgeon. This flea weight definitely won’t work for sturgeon!

Thanks for posting the photos! Definitely old packaging. Because of the Grizzly logo stamped on the bottom, these must be from after 1948 when Andy sold the patent and trademark rights to Maxwell Manufacturing which sold lures using the Grizzly trademark.

Hi, I have been a long time collector of all things copper. I’m looking through my items, I see that I have a copper 6 1/2 spinner and hook with the name R Harrison stamped within
the hook. I assume after reading this blog that I have a lure for Columbia River salmon. Can you please tell me more? Thank you.
