I got some Andy Reeker # 5 lures from a neighbor who got them from his father who had recently passed away. I wasn’t aware that they were vintage lures and thought nothing of using one the other day when I heard that silver and copper were a good combination to use when the salmon are feeding on krill. The salmon we have been catching lately have been feeding exclusively on krill. The lure got bit repeatedly and ended up catching the largest fish of the day. You can see a picture of it to the left. The fish weighed in at 18.5# gilled and gutted. It wasn’t until later that I looked closely at the spoon and saw “Andy Reeker” stamped on it. The fish I caught were in Avila “Port San Luis,” CA. My father ran the party boat “Highland Lassie” out of the S.F. Golden gate for salmon from the 50’s to the 70’s. I have fond memories of the Andy Reekers being the hot lures on many a day.
I remember polishing them up with Nevr Dull polishing wadding, and still remember the smell of it. I still have many of the lures and get them wet whenever I can.
Thanks for posting up this site, it was great reading the history of such a great product.

My dad used to live in Klamath Falls about 45 – 50 year ago. He moved to Myrtle Creek in about 1967. He used to troll on Klamath Lake with Copper Andy Reakers and catch a lot of BIG trout. For many years growing up, we would take our family vacation at Klamath lake and troll with them and Freaks…but the Andy Reakers were always his favorite and what he caught the BIG fish on.
When he passed away in 2002, one of the things that belonged to him that I asked for was one of his old Andy Reakers….. It is in my trout box right now. One of my ways of keeping my dad around.

Andy Reeker spinner blades work very well for Columbia River springers. I’ve only one brass one, but man in three to four ounce current it catches fish. I use a really light wire treble hook with it, so as not to lose it if I get it hung up.
It’s nice to see how well the Andy Reeker blades and the old Wisdom blades still produce even thought they’re over forty years old. These old guys know how to catch fish.

There was a post on the Coastside fishing club forum linking to this site, that might explain the recent traffic.

Dean,
Thanks for the comment. It is really appreciated. I went ahead and put your comment on the top of the Tackle Talk page so everyone sees it right off.
Thanks.

I had this man Dean on my boat last year and pulled out a old white painted Andy Reeker spoon and dropped it down and caught a nice salmon he was amazed and on the next trip out he had a couple he painted up and tried them, he will always belive in the andy reeker
We’ve used and still use Andy Reekers spooners all the time in the mountains of Colorado, My grandpa used to buy and sell them by the hundreds, I especially like the copper spooners. I caught a few nice brookies at a high mountain lake a couple days ago with a brass one. Pictures on my facebook page. I dream of the day that I find a whole page of copper spooners for sale, they’re getting fewer and far between.

Thanks for the tales of Andy Reekers from Colorado and the link on your Facebook page. Looks like you had a fun outing!
I lost my triple teazer a couple of weeks ago so today I put on my Andy Reekers
And low and behold I landed a 20” rainbow trout I will be trying again tomorrow with the same lure
Higgins Lake, Michigan
Congratulations!
A question for Dean Donaldson, what harbor did your dad fish out of? I began as a deckhand in 1979, a Sausalito boat named Ginnie C, originally owned by Henry Carlson, and over the years I worked on some of the older boats in the fleet, Ina Belle, Lovely Martha, Maru II, and I met Hank Schramm, Al Sansimino, Phil Bentivegna, Sam Lackey, Bill Becket, Albie Spadaro, Taylor McGee, and a bunch of the other old timers…..Im pretty sure all of them trolled an Andy Reekers or two
